Nairobi is Africa's second largest and one of the most interesting cities. It is a place of enormous energy, a tireless and thriving bustle of people, and a city of differences. Assorted races, tribes and origins are all a part of its make-up. Rural immigrants and refugees are drawn by the hope of wealth and opportunity, international businessmen are attracted by profitable business prospects, and tourists are promised the makings of the perfect safari. The city centre buzzes with the energy, aspirations and opportunism of moneymakers, safari tours, thieves, food vendors and drink sellers, prostitutes, shoppers, security guards, and lot of sharp-eyed shoe shiners assessing the footwear of the hurried streets. Among them are the disillusioned faces of the unemployed, the beggars and the destitute.
 

 

                                                           

Nairobi is also best characterised by its variety of locally-given descriptive names, representative of the city's contrasting images - of wealthy spacious suburbs, charming flower-lined streets and a refreshing climate, alongside crime, corruption, filth and poverty. Names like 'Green City in the Sun' or  'City of Flowers' and the Masai name 'Place of Cool Waters' attempt to overshadow the all too real version of 'Nairobbery' that stands as a well-found warning to newly arrived tourists.

To find a cheap and decent accommodation in Nairobi is not easy, prices for good accommodation are high.

Fairview hotel 
The hotel is located just outside the main city center in upperhill area. Its a quiet oasis in the middle of the crowded busy city, with beautiful huge garden that makes the perfect atmosphere. Fairview is clean, comfortable, convenient and the freshly prepared food is outstanding.The also have a gym and a swimming in the garden.

Habesha

is an Ethiopian restaurant located on Argwings Khodek road close to "Yaya Center", a nice green garden with several wooden huts and a sports bar. The perfect place to have a drink and enjoy grilled beef and the delicious  traditional Ethiopian food. My favorite meal is the "Shiro Beans"  (fried chickpeas with onions, garlic, grounded ginger and and berber a traditional spice) served with Injera (traditional sour bread).

Seasons 

It´s a restaurant at the end of Market Lane, a nice place to relax, have a chat and eat in town while waiting for the traffic jam to cool down.They serve local dishes, fries, chicken and hamburger. Prices and quality are okay only the service is as bad as in most of the places in Nairobi.

It has a big terrace bar and one of the only places you can seat relaxed outside in down town Nairobi. They serve beer and barbecue.

What to do in Nairobi

Giraffe Center 

Is a home for endangered wildlife mostly Rothschild giraffes and warthogs. It consist of  a reserved indigenous forest that once surrounded Nairobi located in the outskirts of town. The ideal place to visit if traveling with children, because they allow guest to touch and feed the giraffes and you can also do a forest nature trail through the forest directly opposite the giraffe center. In the forest you can guide yourself with guide map from one station to the next exploring the animals habitats and it also has a large variety of birds thus making it a very good place for bird watching throughout the year.The objectives of giraffe center are to conserve all endangered wildlife, support other conservation project in Kenya and to provide free environmental education to the youth.

National Archive

Located in the city center, opposite the Nairobi Hilton Hotel, the National Archives contains a collection of old publications, Kenyan crafts and artifacts, photograph that go back all the way to the precolonial era.

National Museum and The Snake Park 

The National Museum was established in 1930. The museum has a collection of items that showcase origins of Mankind and Kenya's past and present cultural and natural heritage.  It serves to enhance knowledge, appreciation, respect and sustainable utilization of Kenya’s resources for the benefit of Kenya and the world. It is a good  place to visit as it will aid one in understanding more about Kenya’s history.
The Snake Park has in display a variety of snakes including: Cobras, Puff adders mambas and the Rock Python, which are only be found in Kenya. It is also home to a variety of crocodiles, the alligator, fresh water terrapins and tortoise.

Karen Blixen Museum

 

 Danish author Karen Blixen, best known for her book Out of Africa, lived in this house on the outskirts of Nairobi that has now been restored into a museum in her honor. Blixen lived in Nairobi from 1914 to 1931 and ran a coffee plantation on the site. Originally owned by the Danish government, the house was then donated to Kenya to celebrate the country's independence. Inside, you will find such artifacts as a replica of the RCA gramophone on which Blixen would play Mozart concertos; a library of books belonging to Denys Finch Hatton her partner, who lived with the author at the house from 1926–1931; and a restoration of the original kitchen, including a Dove stove like the one Blixen used and period silverware. Also on view are the grounds of the estate, meant to emulate a coffee plantation in the early 20th century. Tours of the estate are offered on a continual basis, and a museum shop offers handicrafts and books.

zanzibar

Thought i should put up some pictures of my all time favorite places, with all its beautiful scenery. I was just amazed, Zanzibar. Its a must-go to island   

Zanzibar is an archipelago made up of Zanzibar and Pemba Islands, and several islets. It is located in the Indian Ocean, about 25 miles from the Tanzanian coast, and 6° south of the equator. Zanzibar Island is 60 miles long and 20 miles wide, occupying a total area of approximately 650 square miles. It is characterized by beautiful sandy beaches amazing turquoise water and coral reefs. Stone Town is the capital of Zanzibar it is named after coral stone buildings built largely in the 19^th century. It is located on the west coast and has a population of 18,000 people and a good number of old  buildings. The streets are tall and narrow and confusing it always leads to a different street or to the sea.

Beach cottages at Nungwi beach, north of Zanzibar all made of natural resources.

                               

Nungwi is famous for it’s buzzing nightlife and very laid back vibe. This northernmost tip of Zanzibar is the heart of the island’s budget tourism industry and teaming with student back-packers and aging hippies . The actual village of Nungwi is still a traditional fishing village and is the center of Zanzibar’s dhow-building industry. It’s at night time the beaches are alive with bonfires, drumming sessions, crowds of party and music from the bars

Amboseli National Park

  Amboseli National Reserve

Located in Kenya's southwest coast directly at the border of Tanzania, is home to the largest peak in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro, which makes it a popular touristdestination after the Masai Mara. Amboseli also features five different wildlife habitats including the lake bed of Lake Amboseli, sulfur springs surrounded by swamps and marshes, open savanna, woodlands and areas of lava rock thorn bush. The area around Amboseli is home to many Maasai communities.
